After high school graduation, I entered the United States Air Force Academy in June of 1994 with the Class of 1998. Just a few weeks after starting Basic Cadet Training, I sprained my ankle during intramural soccer. At the beginning of “2nd Beast”, my classmates marched out to Jack’s Valley, and since I was unable to march with them, I experienced a medical turn-back. The Air Force ordered me to return home, heal, and wait for June 1995, when I would restart BCT with the Class of 1999.
On June 2, 1999, I received a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force, earning distinction as a Distinguished Graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
