Review — July 2012

you-can-be-a-test-pilotYou Can Be a Test Pilot — that is one message of a new book published this past month, and it has been the subject of several posts in the past few months, including here where I ask you for feedback on an experiment designed to introduce people to pilot gains, pilot induced oscillation, and handling qualities in FTT #5.

What is an FTT (and FTT #5) is a monthly column that will continue on the last Friday of each month–it introduces the fundamental building blocks of flight test maneuver and also highlights #FTT Friday on twitter from @FlightTestFact.

If you are wondering what kind of airplanes you will fly as a test pilot, check out Airplanes by Design posts like this one, where NASA’s lifting bodies are the focus.

Finally, in the weekly ATOMs post, I explain that understanding the consequences of missing your target is an important strategy of for facing uncertainty and understanding the statistics used as metrics.

As always, each week, you’ll continue to find a flight test video on Tuesday, Airplanes by Design on Wednesday, and Flight Test References on Thursday.

The first Sunday is confessions of a freelance test pilot.

And on most Fridays (not the last one), you’ll find answers to your questions about launching your flight test career here.
